The power of being a present mama

The Power of Being a Present Mama

I have seen a huge correlation between when I’m present and being intentional about spending quality time with my boys and the way they behave.  When I’m “there” for them, they behave better, and they even receive more truth about Jesus. God calls us into intimacy with Him. I believe that if we model this type of true heart connection with Him and with our children, it will produce so much fruit.

I have had to learn to fight the distractions from my phone and the business of life while learning to cherish the small moments I have with my boys.  This is how I model this:  I simply put my phone down and away, and we play together - without distractions. We love to build, to go on walks, and to create things together. This could be building boats out of Legos, making Noah’s Ark, even playing Jonah and the fish in the bathtub. I truly enjoy spending time with them, and it cultivates so much joy and peace when I’m intentional like this.

I have also seen one more correlation regarding reading my Bible.  When I read Scripture, worship, and pray to God around my boys, they want to model this behavior as well. I committed to reading through the Bible in a year, and I have seen my boys hunger to know God’s Word as a result of this. When I pray, they want to join, and they are telling me who to pray for. And we worship together - we dance and praise the Lord together, and the whole atmosphere of the home shifts. It’s an honor and a privilege to raise up little soldiers for Jesus.  You can be sure that our children truly do watch us.

Lastly, and I think this is the most important, is to model repentance before them when I’m struggling with a sin. If I get angry or frustrated, I tell them that I repented to God, and I repent to them and ask them to forgive me.  There have also been times when my boys have walked in on me crying in physical or emotional pain, as I am working it out with God. I don’t pretend or act like I’m too tough or perfect. I let my boys watch and see my transformation, which has been raw at times. God used my boys to set me free in so many areas in my heart, and my boys have been witness to many of my tears and raw prayers with God. I want my boys to see humility and repentance so they will desire the same in their personal relationships with God.

I want to end this blog with this scripture and short prayer. “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”  (Psalm 127:3 NLT)

God, I thank You for my children.  (List each one by name as you pray for them.)

I thank You that You have equipped me and called me to raise them up in Your ways.  I thank You that it is a privilege and an honor to teach them.  I thank You that no one else can be a better Mama to my children than me, and that You will continue to guide me with wisdom and knowledge in how to do so.

In Jesus’ mighty Name!

Blessings, ♥️
