Always Pray and Never Give Up
Always Pray and Never Give Up
“Always pray and never give up.” These are words from Jesus at the beginning of a parable from the Gospel of Luke. I see this parable applying to motherhood in so many ways. Read it and let the Holy Spirit minister to your heart.
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’” Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” (Luke 18:1-8 NLT)
So how does this parable apply to moms? Motherhood can be exhausting and wearing, whether you just can’t keep up with the daily demands, or maybe your child has walked away from the Lord. Keep the faith and know that God, in His perfect timing, will restore all that the enemy has taken away. Also remember that God is not annoyed by our constant requests. He desires for us to speak to Him intimately throughout our day (see 1 Thessalonians 5:17). I have prayed about everything and anything related to motherhood, and I have seen God move. I have prayed about my kids’ sleeping, eating, going to the bathroom – really all the milestones in their young lives. I have seen the Lord move after I surrendered these concerns, giving Him the room to move.
Keep the faith, mama, and know that the Lord desires to grant you justice and to move on your behalf. I believe all we need to do is get out of the way and yield to His Holy Spirit!
Lastly, let’s not forget that we are not just widows any longer coming to an unjust human judge as in the parable. We are coming to the living God, a loving God who is full of justice. The Bible says that we are now daughters of the King and co-heirs with Christ! This is our position, so that when we pray we can “ . . . come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16 NLT)
I’m praying for a fresh fire and anointing over you, for you to keep up the faith and press into Him when days get long and hard, in Jesus name!
I want to end with this verse to cling to as we navigate motherhood.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)
Amen
Blessings,
