Speaking Life with Your Tongue, and Blessing Rather than Death

There is power in the tongue. Scripture states “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”  (Proverbs 18:21 NLT)  I desire to be a Mama of faith and blessing for my husband, children, and everyone I encounter. I fear the Lord when it comes to the words I speak, and I know the Lord wants to use my mouth to bring blessing and life rather than death. Words have power, especially when they are released under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

As I write this blog this afternoon, it is actually the first day of sending my oldest son to school. Each year my husband and I want to be led by the Holy Spirit, specifically praying for the right school and right teachers for our children. I know there has been such a strong agenda by the enemy to plant fear into parents, specifically when it comes to schools. I think of the parents who lost children to school shootings, and it just breaks my heart. Or even think of the parents who can’t afford Christian private school, and they fear sending their child to the public schools right now. I believe now is the time to be led by the Holy Spirit. We need to pray specifically for the right teacher and the right school. We know that the Lord hears our prayers, and that He will speak and guide us to the right choices concerning our children. I also believe that our prayer focus should be for our children to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will protect our children and bring conviction to them.  He will speak to them and even use them in mighty ways in this hour to help push back the darkness being targeted against children.

On the way to school I prayed specifically that the Lord would send an angel to guard and protect my son. I blessed my son's school and prayed against the enemy's schemes. I prayed for angels to watch over the school. I also prayed for the teachers to have patience and wisdom, and that they would speak life and not death over the children. I prayed for the Holy Spirit to move upon the hearts and minds of every child and parent and person who would step into his school. I prayed these things in the mighty name of Jesus.

I also spoke an "I am" statement over my son to build him up in the Lord. I want my son to to know how much the Lord loves him, and that he needs to be rooted in his identity in Jesus.  Here are some "I am" statements I'm teaching my son, and I encourage you to teach these or similar statements to your child or children. Maybe give them one statement each day, and repeat them throughout the school year. You will be giving your children a resource they can tap into when they need to encourage themselves in the Lord!
