Going back to the garden

Blog 16: Going Back to the Garden!

One of the best decisions I have made - besides giving my life to Jesus - is to make a prayer room for our family. A few months ago I was feeling worn out and exhausted. As some of you already know, Lord led me to help launch and lead a children's ministry for my church. I also have three young boys and a part-time job as a waitress. My quality time with the Lord seemed to be not as fruitful as it used to be. I felt like there was no time in the day. I needed to rest in the Lord, but didn’t know how to do that.

I ended up getting sick, and the Lord put a vision in my spirit of a prayer room. As soon as I got better I took my boys shopping and we got a few things to make the room special. It’s actually pretty extravagant. This prayer room has truly wrecked me for Jesus. The Lord has just lavished His love upon me in ways I had not experienced before. I have “returned to the garden,” I call it. When we look at the beginning, when God made Adam and Eve He made them in perfect fellowship with God. There was no sin and no separation. We all know the story of how the serpent came and deceived Eve, tricking her to eat the apple that God had forbidden them to eat. This cut off the fellowship between them and God.

Sin separates us from God. I believe the distractions get so intense the closer you get to your calling or start walking in your calling. But the good news is that Jesus came and died for all sin, and the veil between us and God was torn. We can return to the secret place and experience intimacy with Jesus. This is where He speaks to our hearts about how much He loves us. Through His Spirit and His word He reveals to us secrets of His kingdom.

I also want to encourage parents with young children to bring them into the prayer room! They copy us and want what we have. My young boys have already started to hear and experience God’s Spirit, and this has truly brought revival and an even deeper peace into our entire home.

Let this word from the Bible wash over your soul.

“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.”

Psalms 63:1-8 NLT

Let’s pray…

Lord forgive me for not making You a priority in my life. I repent for the distractions and for the lies I have believed that have kept me away from Your presence. Give me a fresh revelation of Your love for me in the mighty name of Jesus! Lord, I’m returning to my first love, which is You, and I believe that nothing will separate me from this love, in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen
