My worth in Jesus
Learning to Understand My Worth in Jesus.
I love the Lord with all my heart, soul, and mind, but sometimes it’s really hard to feel His love when the lies of the enemy seem to be louder than the truth of God’s voice. As I grow deeper in my faith, I’m learning to recognize the many lies I’ve believed about myself, and even about God. The enemy plants those lies, and as I believe them, they become strongholds in my mind. It is my job to apply God’s truth. When I agree with God’s truth rather than the enemy’s lie, I break free.
Here are some common lies about motherhood that you might believe:
I’m not enough
I don’t know enough
I’m failing
I’m unworthy
I’m worthless
I’m fat
I’m not a good mom
I don’t know enough about God
God doesn’t love me
I’m dirty
“I’m not . . . “ becomes louder than “I am . . . “
But God’s voice says you are enough for Him! The value God places on you is demonstrated by Jesus’ dying for you and loving you . . . unconditionally . . . no matter what!
I have had to face, and break free from, the lies listed above. Many times the enemy will use a traumatic event in our lives as an opportunity to plant lies in our mind and heart. If we continue to believe those lies, they will hold us in bondage, and we will become imprisoned by that event. I have learned to trust God, to lean into Him in that hurt, to go back to those hard events, and to receive His healing.
Jesus is worth pressing in. He is not scary. He will heal and restore every deep hurt. We just need to seek Him and to surrender. Once we surrender to Him, here are two steps to freedom:
Tearing down strongholds
A stronghold is a lie that we believe about ourselves in our minds. That lie becomes a fortress that needs to be torn down by the Word of God.
“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
Renewing our minds
This means retraining the way we think. We do this by reading the Bible and memorizing scripture. When we are not in the Word, we are prone to receiving the enemy’s lies.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2
I want to close this devotional with an activity I love to do. I encourage you to sit quietly before the Lord and to ask the Holy Spirit to show you, right now, any lies you have believed about God and about yourself. Write them down on a piece of paper. Then take another piece of paper and write a truth list about yourself. On this list write down the things God says about you, such as:
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
As you reflect upon the promises in God’s word, you may think of many more than these two examples!
Finally, tear up and throw away the “Lie list.” Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 again, this time aloud and as your prayer to God. Break your agreement with those lies that you believed. Ask God to replace those lies with the truth, with what the Word says you are in Him.
It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will free you from all lies, and will give you a sound mind, based upon the truths revealed in His Word. I pray that we will immediately recognize lies that disagree with God’s word. I encourage you, whenever a lie pops into your mind, to “go to war” right away! Your prayer can be, “I rebuke this thought - it must go in Jesus’ mighty Name!”
Be blessed, Kingdom Mamas! I pray that all of us will know who we are in Christ! Amen!
Blessings,
Kingdom Mama
